What is Green IT?

Green IT refers to IT solutions and IT technologies that are environmentally friendly. In recent years in particular, as the environment has become a more important topic in public discourse, voices have been raised that the IT sector - like other industries - should also make its contribution to sustainability and introduce environmentally friendly practices.

Against the backdrop of climate change and the associated efforts to achieve greater sustainability and resource-saving solutions, it is no wonder that the IT sector is also looking for climate-friendly solutions.

Challenges in the IT industry

The IT industry is facing a number of challenges that have made sustainable IT impossible to date. These include, for example, the high energy consumption of data centers and servers. Another problem is the electronic waste that is generated every year and is caused by the short life cycles of devices.

In addition, there are problems such as the extraction of certain raw materials that are necessary for the production of electronic devices and IT infrastructure. Mining is often very harmful to the environment and often conflicts with human rights as it takes place under questionable conditions.
